Only Khattar holds fort for BJP in Haryana as leads oscillate between NDA and INDIA

The BJP, which had won seven of the 10 Lok Sabha seats in 2014 and swept Haryana in 2019, is heading for a rout in the state with consistent leads only in two seats.

As of 12.30 pm, only two BJP candidates – former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar from Karnal and former Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar from Faridabad – were leading.

Five years ago, the BJP had won eight seats by a margin of over 3 lakh votes while winning Karnal and Faridabad with an over 6 lakh margin. Just ahead of the polls in March, the BJP had replaced Khattar with Nayab Saini as CM in an attempt to woo voters of the SC, ST and OBC communities. Khattar’s resignation as Karnal MLA has necessitated a bypoll, which his successor Saini is currently leading by over 24,000 votes.

In Gurgaon, actor-turned-politician Raj Babbar of the Congress is leading former Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh of the BJP by over 23,000 votes while in Kurukshetra, the BJP’s Naveen Jindal, who recently crossed over from the Congress, is locked in a tough fight with Aam Aadmi Party’s Sushil Gupta and is leading by 4,810 votes.

In Sonipat too, the lead has been oscillating between BJP’s Mohan Lal Badoli and Congress’s Satpal Brahmachari with the former leading by over 10,000 votes as of 12.30 pm. BJP’s Dharambir Singh has established a 18,457-vote lead over Congress’s Rao Dhan Singh.

Despite its vast margins in all the seats of the state in the last elections, only Khattar has managed to garner a significant lead so far.
