Winona Ryder Shares Where Her Relationship Stands With 'Husband' Keanu Reeves

Winona Ryder and Keanu Reeves are still madly in (platonic) love with each other.

The former “Dracula” costars have known each other since the 1980s and, as they divulged during a 2018 press tour for “Destination Wedding,” their onscreen nuptials in the 1992 Bram Stoker adaptation might’ve been legally binding.

On the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast Monday, host Josh Horowitz asked Ryder how “the two biggest luddites on the planet” even keep in touch.

“I know,” said Ryder. “But we do text, and we always say who it is, even though it says it on the text … On his birthday, when I’m like, ‘Happy Birthday, my husband!’ and I put ‘Noni,’ he’s like, ‘Hey, wife! Love you, KR 57.’ On each birthday he’s like, ‘KR 57’ or whatever his age is.”

“He’s always done that,” she explained.

Ryder and Reeves were familiar with each other long before they were cast in “Dracula.”

“We met in the late ’80s, like ’87, ’88, at one of the early Independent Spirit Awards at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel,” she told People in 2018. “It wasn’t televised. Buck Henry was the emcee, and we gave out Best Supporting Actor.”

Ryder also explained to the outlet that she had initiated their “Destination Wedding” collaboration.

“I emailed him,” she said, adding: “I was so happy because he responded.”

During an Entertainment Weekly interview with Reeves in 2018, Ryder revealed that director Francis Ford Coppola had used “a real Romanian priest” for their “Dracula” wedding scene.

“We said yes?” Reeves asked Ryder, who confirmed as much. “Oh my gosh, we’re married,” he joked.

The Romanian nuptials presumably didn’t hold, however, as Reeves and Ryder have both pursued various other romantic interests over the years.
