'Verdict illegal': Bengal CM to challenge Calcutta HC's order declaring 2016 SSC recruitment ‘null and void’

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday claimed that the Calcutta High Court's order declaring 2016 teacher recruitment test as 'null and void' is “illegal", adding that the Trinamool Congress will challenge it. 

While addressing a rally at north Bengal's Raiganj, accused leaders of influencing a section of the judiciary and judgments.

“We will stand by those who lost jobs. We will ensure you get justice, and challenge the order in a higher court," she added.

The high court, on Monday, ordered cancellation of all appointments made through the recruitment process of the State Level Selection Test-2016 (SLST) in West Bengal government-sponsored and aided schools. 

Over 23 lakh candidates had appeared for the SLST-2016 for 24,640 vacant posts. 

However, a total of 25,753 appointment letters were issued against the vacancies.

West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) will also appeal in the , challenging the high court verdict, said its Chairman Siddharth Majumder.

On the order, BJP leader and former judge of Calcutta High Court demanded "immediate resignation" of Mamata Banerjee.

His single bench had previously ordered CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the recruitment process. 

He asserted that "the entire group of fraudsters in the state administration" responsible for perpetrating the scam "should be hanged".

At the rally, Mamata also claimed that the BJP is in panic mode after sensing defeat in the first phase of polling last week and asserted that the rout of the saffron camp across the country is imminent.

She described the controversy surrounding as a "pre-planned ploy" by the BJP to malign the in state at a time when the Lok Sabha polls are underway.
