Ukraine-Russia war latest: Kyiv troops capture 102 Russian soldiers in one attack as they ‘advance’ in Kursk
Ukrainian troops claim to have captured more than a 100 Russian soldiers in one attack in the Russian region of Kursk as they continue to “advance” in their audacious assault inside Vladimir Putin’s homeland.
A source in the Security Service of Ukraine reported that special forces had captured 102 servicemen of Russia’s 488th Guards Motorised Rifle Regiment and its “Akhmat” this week.
It is the largest group of soldiers to be captured in one go since Russia launched its invasion in 2022.
“They captured and cleared a sprawling, concrete and well-fortified company stronghold from all sides,” the source claimed.
Earlier, Ukrainian president Voldodymyr Zelensky, recounting a meeting with military chief General Oleksandr Syrskyi, suggested they had had a “new replenishment of our ‘exchange fund’”, referring to prisoners of war.
Mr Zelensky added that they had a “new advance” in the Kursk incursion. Referring to a major town of a prewar population of 5,000 in Kursk, he said: “General Syrskyi also reported on the completion of the liberation of the town of Sudzha from the Russian military.”

As Ukraine’s incursion into Kursk enters its 11th day, below we point you towards an interview The Independent did earlier this week with president Volodymyr Zelensky’s top advisor on the ultimate objectives of the assault.
Mykhailo Podolyak described the incursion as a “military tool of coercion to force Russia into the negotiation process”.
