Stephen Colbert Makes 'Weird' Discovery In Jack Smith's New Trump Brief

Stephen Colbert delighted in a “surprise” 165-page filing from special counsel Jack Smith that argues how former President Donald Trump, in his attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election, “resorted to crimes.”

“That’s pretty damning language, I gotta say, but kinda weird word choice to say Trump ‘resorted to crimes,’” quipped “The Late Show” host on Thursday.

“That’s like saying, with nowhere else to turn, the bear resorted to pooping in the woods. It’s just what they do. And just a note, ‘resorted to crimes’ should not be confused with crime resort, another name for Mar-a-Lago.”

The legal brief, unsealed by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan on Wednesday, offers new evidence in the federal election case against Trump. It arrived roughly three months after the Supreme Court’s ruling that gives presidents immunity for “official” acts.
