Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle expected to tell a House hearing that her agency 'failed' in not protecting Trump

U.S. Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle will testify Monday before the House oversight committee on apparent failures that led to the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania last weekend

Cheatle has come under pressure to resign, particularly from Republicans who confronted her at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last week. But she has remained firm in her decision to stay on as the head of the Secret Service, an agency she worked her way to the top of over a 29-year career.

Last week, Cheatle came under pressure from police unions for the Secret Service initially blaming local police for not properly securing the rooftop where Crooks took aim. After a conversation with the Fraternal Order of Police executive director Jim Pasco last Tuesday, Cheatle began to take clear responsibility for the security failure.
