Olympian Proposes To Boyfriend With Something Way Cooler Than A Ring After Race

French Olympian Alice Finot proposed to her boyfriend after breaking the European record during the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase final in Paris.

Moments after finishing, Finot dropped to one knee and asked her longtime boyfriend, Spanish triathlete Bruno Martinez Bargiela, to marry her.

Her choice of jewelry to seal the deal was something a little different, and a lot special: an Olympic pin. She fixed it on his shirt after he said yes.

It was the pin she’d raced with, engraved with the phrase “Love is in Paris.”

The first-time Olympian finished fourth, missing out on a podium finish by three seconds. She finished with a time of 8:58:76, which turned out to be a very important factor.

“I told myself that if I ran under nine minutes, knowing that nine is my lucky number and that we’ve been together for nine years, then I would propose,” Finot said, according to Olympics.com.

“I don’t like doing things like everyone else,” she added. “Since he hadn’t done it yet, I thought maybe it was up to me.”

It was the first time four women have finished the same race of the event in under nine minutes, according to World Athletics.
