Olympian Maggie Steffens' Sister-In-Law Dies Just Before Olympics: 'It's A Nightmare'
The 26-year-old sister-in-law of U.S. water polo captain Maggie Steffens died Tuesday, just days before the start of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Friday.
Lulu Conner, who died due to “a medical emergency,” traveled to Paris to watch Steffens compete for her fourth gold medal, according to The Associated Press.
“I mean, it’s a nightmare, and it’s completely shocking. But I think just feeling her spirit here is, like I said, it’s amazing. And I hope that we can make her proud every single day,” Steffens told the AP, adding that Lulu was “so excited” for the Olympics. Steffens also said that her team has been “a really big support” since Lulu’s death.
Lulu was an artist and a graduate of the University of California, Davis. Before her death, she made clock necklaces for members of the women’s water polo team, People Magazine reported. Lulu also made one for the team’s official hype man, rapper Flava Flav.
“Imma be wearing a VERY SPECIAL second clock for the duration of the Olympics and more,,,
MADE WITH LOVE BY ARTIST LULU CONNER,” Flav, who signed a 5-year sponsorship deal for the team, <a href=«https://twitter.com/FlavorFlav/status/1817624974699729060?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1817624974699729060%7Ctwgr%5E34fbfa342936012145926cea39d0f25b9dd7cdf3%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpeople.com%2Fembed%3Furl%3Dhttps3A2F2Fx.com2FFlavorFlav2Fstatus2F1817624974699729060id%3Dmntl-sc-block_23-0-iframeoptions%3De303DdocId%3D8684974» target="_blank" role=«link» class=" js-entry-link cet-external-link" data-vars-item-name=«wrote on X» data-vars-item-type=«text» data-vars-unit-name=«66a6e1aae4b0cb371c88f02a» data-vars-unit-type=«buzz_body»
