Nigel Farage Wins In Clacton To Become An MP

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has won in Clacton becoming an MP at the eighth time of trying.

He won 21,225 votes and secured a majority of more than 8,000, beating the incumbent Conservatives into second place and Labour into third. 

Speaking at the count in Clacton in the early hours of Friday morning, he said that "I will do my absolute best as a Member of Parliament."

"I will do my absolute best to put Clacton on the map, I'll do my best to bring more tourists, I'll do my best to try and bring some private investment," he added.

He becomes the right-wing party’s second MP of the night with Lee Anderson — a former Conservative who defected earlier this year — keeping his seat in Ashfield.

Farage had initially ruled himself out of standing at this General Election, but on 3 June announced that he would be the party's candidate in Clacton, and would be taking over as party leader. 

He said he had changed his mind as he felt he would be letting "millions" of voters down if he did not.
