Mitch McConnell to step down as Senate Republican leader after 16 years
Senator Mitch McConnell, the longest-serving party leader in the upper chamber’s history, will stand aside from his leadership post after the November general election.
The Kentucky Republican, who has been the GOP’s leader since 2007, is expected to announce his decision in remarks from the Senate floor.
He will tell his colleagues: “One of life’s most underappreciated talents is to know when it’s time to move on to life’s next chapter… “So I stand before you today… to say that this will be my last term as Republican leader of the Senate”.
