Jean Smart Makes A Totally Relatable HBO Mix-Up After Emmys Win: 'Just What We Needed'

Jean Smart used her Emmys acceptance speech on Sunday to make light of whatever Warner Bros. Discovery is now calling its streaming service for her show.

The “Hacks” star, who won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, began her remarks by joking that she appreciated the honor as she doesn’t “get enough attention.”

She then shared a number of thank-you’s to those tied to the show, which won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series later in the ceremony.

“Casey [Bloys] and Sarah [Aubrey] and everybody at HBO — Max, no, H — I’m sorry,” said Smart before letting out a sigh as the crowd laughed at the seemingly intentional mix-up.

She continued, “Just what we needed, another network.”

“Hacks” premiered as an original series on the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max back in 2021.

The platform has since dropped HBO from its name and has simply gone by Max since its rebrand in May 2023.

The streaming service — to make matters more confusing — offers programs from the HBO network and used the tagline “the one to watch for HBO” when it announced the change to Max last year.

You can catch more of Smart’s acceptance speech below.
