In Gujarat, Sunita Kejriwal takes the lead in AAP campaign: ‘Jail ka jawab vote se’

Beseeching votes as an answer to the ruling dispensation for jailing her husband and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sunita Kejriwal on Thursday accompanied AAP MLA and Bharuch candidate Chaitar Vasava, as he held a roadshow in his Assembly constituency of Dediapada.

Vasava, who had spent 48 days in jail in a case of assault of forest officials and stayed away from Dediapada for four months after he was booked, was accompanied by his wives Shakuntala and Varsha in the roadshow.

Perched around a Birsa Munda statue at a traffic island, Sunita took to reminding several hundreds who had gathered that the “unjust and wrongful jailing of Vasava” and Shakuntala – from December 2023 till February this year – is similar to her husband’s and is a “sign of dictatorship”.

Sunita, a star campaigner for AAP, accompanied the party’s two candidates from Gujarat – Bhavnagar candidate Umesh Makwana in Botad and Vasava in Dediapada – in a tightly wound day-long schedule of campaigning with roadshows held in both constituencies.

Both Makwana and Vasava are sitting AAP MLAs and are contesting as part of the INDIA bloc alliance. With the party only contesting two Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat, a win for the party in one of the seats would mark a first for AAP.

The Gujarat AAP leadership divided itself between two roadshows at Botad and Dediapada – state party chief Isudan Gadhvi holding fort at Botad while national joint secretary Gopal Italia and state general secretary Manoj Sorathiya accompanied Vasava.

At Dediapada, Sunita took to highlighting the “unfair and unjustified” imprisonment of her husband while raising slogans like ‘jail ka jawab vote se’ and ‘our Kejriwal is sher’.
