Harris-Trump live: VP refuses to debate ex-president on Fox as she agrees to September ABC showdown

Kamala Harris says she welcomes Donald Trump’s decision to debate her in September, which the former president announced at a rambling press conference at Mar-a-Lago on Thursday.

“I hear that Donald Trump has finally committed to debating me on September 10,” Vice President Harris wrote on X. “I look forward to it.”

At Mar-a-Lago, Trump said he would attend three debates — one on Fox News on September 4, one on ABC News on September 10, and one on NBC News on September 25 — while the Harris campaign is reportedly against starting with the Fox debate.

Trump’s announcement on the debates came after a string of flip-flops on whether he would participate.

During the press conference, the Republican spent approximately an hour answering questions and delivering an unhinged mix of his stump speech, punctuated with attacks on his Democratic opponent (and past ones) and a return to his favorite grievance — boasting about crowd sizes.

Trump also claimed that he was ahead in the polls, whereas in reality, even as the numbers are shifting and starting to favor the Democrats. The latest polling from Marquette University shows Harris leading by between four and eight percentage points.
