From Trump to Prince Andrew: All the famous names embroiled in the Ghislaine Maxwell trial

Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell palled around with presidents, movie stars and royalty, hosting household names aboard private jets and at palatial properties all over the world.

Those decades-long connections formed a key role in Maxwell’s conviction for sex-trafficking at a federal courthouse in Manhattan in December 2021.

Maxwell would frequently boast of her close friendships with Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew and Donald Trump, her accusers have testified.

Prosecutors said the access to powerful people was both alluring and intimidating – and victims of Epstein’s abuse would feel afraid to break off contact out of fear of what he and his powerful allies might do.

In December 2021, a jury found Ghislaine Maxwell guilty on five of the six charges against her.

She was found not guilty of one charge: enticing a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts.

Maxwell was sentenced to 20 years behind bars plus a $750,000 fine the following June.

In a prison interview later broadcast on Talk TV in January 2023, Maxwell told filmmaker Daphne Barak that she was blind to Epstein’s “evil”.

“I didn’t know that he was so awful. I mean, obviously now, looking back with hindsight, of course.

“But at the time, I mean he had lots of friends. He was friendly with just about everybody you could imagine. There was no reason to imagine that he was someone who was capable of evil.”

At Epstein’s Palm Beach estate in Florida, photographs of the late paedophile with Fidel Castro and Pope John Paul II adorned the walls, the trial heard.

Maxwell, the daughter of late media mogul Robert Maxwell, was a charming and vivacious networker who seemed to know everybody, accusers said.
