Ex-Boyfriend Accused Of Lying To Police After Pregnant Teen Was Found Dead

A Georgia man was arrested on Wednesday as police investigate the death of his 16-year-old pregnant ex-girlfriend whose body was discovered over the weekend.

Jesus Monroy, 20, is charged with giving false statements to police during their homicide investigation into the death of Mia Campos, whose body was found in the woods near her home in Loganville, according to an announcement by Gwinnett County Police.

Officers told Atlanta CBS affiliate WANF on Wednesday that Monroy was not currently a suspect in Campos’ killing.

Campos’ family told police that she left their home on the night of July 14 with an unknown person but did not return, according to the police press release. Her family found her dead in a nearby wooded area the next day after using an app to track her cell phone.

The 16-year-old was seven months pregnant, according to the outlet.

Police arrived at the scene at around 1 a.m. but were unable to determine how the teen died, according to the release. The medical examiner who completed an autopsy on Tuesday determined her death was a homicide, authorities said. Her cause of death has still not been announced.

Monroy was arrested the following day, according to police. An attorney representing him was not immediately available to answer questions from HuffPost.

Campos’ mother, Miriam Zarate, told Univision that she was shocked by Monroy’s arrest, stating that he had helped the family look for her, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“I don’t understand because he was here that night. He helped us look for her. He found her. He came here on Monday, and he
