What’s happening on the campaign trail today
Vice President Kamala Harris will deliver the eulogyin Houston today for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, who died last month from cancer.
President Joe Biden also commemorated Jackson Lee, appearing in Texas yesterday to pay his respects. Both Biden and Harris have personal connections to her, with Biden having served alongside her in Congress for decades and Harris belonging to the same historically Black sorority.
Former President Donald Trump has been attacking Harris for identifying as Black, saying at a panel with Black journalists in Chicago yesterday, "I did not know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black." Harris is Indian American through her mother and Jamaican through her father.
Trump's running mate, Sen. JD Vance, visited the southern border in Arizona today as the campaign tries to paint Harris as weak on immigration.
