DNC 2024 live: Barack Obama returns to familiar ground on DNC stage and heaps praise on Biden

Barack Obama was greeted with roars from crowds at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago on Tuesday night, declaring “it’s good to be home” as he heaped praise on president Joe Biden.

Following remarks from his wife and former first lady, Obama told crowds: “I don’t know about you but I’m feeling fired up. I am feeling ready to go! Even if I’m the only person stupid enough to speak after Michelle Obama.”

He went on: “History will remember Joe Biden as an outstanding president who defended democracy at a moment of great danger. And I am proud to call him my president. But I am even prouder to call him my friend,” he said.

In her own remarks Michelle Obama took aim at Donald Trump’s baseless accusations that Democrats are letting immigrants enter the country illegally and taking “Black jobs,” a statement that has been widely derided as racist.

“I wanna know, who’s gonna tell him that the job he’s currently seeking might just be one of those Black jobs?” he said.

The Obamas addressed their hometown shortly after state representatives jubilantly pledged their delegates for Kamala Harris, confirming her as the official Democratic presidential candidate.

Barack Obama heaped praise on his former vice president Joe Biden in his remarks, before moving on to savage Donald Trump.
