BJP's Giriraj Singh 'thanks' Omar Abdullah after his criticism of Lalu Prasad Yadav

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah garnered praise from BJP leaders on Friday after censuring personal attacks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The remarks came in the wake of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's parivarvaad jibe against the PM. Union Minister Giriraj Singh thanked the National Conference chief for asserting that personal remarks against Modi have been known to backfire.

“I thank Omar Abdullah. He should teach Lalu Yadav, what he should say and what should not. No matter how much they hurl abuses at Modi, people will bring him back with '400 paar' in the coming Lok Sabha elections," said Singh.

Earlier on Friday, Abdullah had told the media that such slogans had always “harmed" the Opposition. The remarks in question were made by the RJD supremo during a rally of the grand alliance in Patna.

“I have never been in favour of such slogans and we have never benefited from them. Whenever we use such slogans, it harms us. Voters are not influenced by all of this, they want to know how the issues they are facing at present will be resolved...We do self-goal or remove the goalkeeper by giving such statements and allow PM Modi to score a goal...," the NC leader said.

“What can we do if Narendra Modi does not have a family of his own? He keeps bragging about the Ram temple. He is not even a true Hindu. In Hindu tradition, a son must shave his head and beard upon the demise of his parents. Modi did not do so when his mother died," Yadav had said.

The remarks prompted a furious outcry from BJP leaders and supporters with many joining the ‘Modi Ka Parivar’ campaign.
