Nitish Kumar is set to resign as the Bihar Chief Minister on Saturday, sources told earlier in he evening. Kumar is likely to take oath as the chief minister with the new NDA cabinet on Sunday, the report said.

When Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar deserted the BJP in August 2022, he accused the BJP of trying to “split and finish” off his party Janata Dal (United). He changed sides and formed the government with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, and gave the impression that a socialist leader should carry forward his legacy. Three months later, Nitish said Deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav of RJD would lead the Mahagathbandhan’s Assembly election campaign in 2025.
Speculation are rife that Bihar Chief Minister and INDIA bloc ally Nitish Kumar might return to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). India Today cited BJP sources as saying on Thursday that the BJP has set a condition for the JD(U) chief if he wants to return to the alliance. And that condition is: Nitish Kumar must quit as the chief minister, sources said.
