Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to Ajit Pawar faction of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the plea filed by the Sharad Pawar's faction against the decision of the Election Commission of India (ECI), which recognized Ajit Pawar's faction as the ‘real’ NCP. The apex court said that the ECI order granting Sharad Pawar faction Nationalist Congress Party - Sharadchandra Pawar name shall continue.
The battle of the Pawars is heating up inside the Maharashtra Assembly and at the Supreme Court.
In a veiled attack at Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) founder Sharad Pawar, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Sunday urged his supporters to listen to him "like they listened to a senior" earlier and vote for his Lok Sabha candidate.
While giving his decision on January 10 that the “real Shiv Sena” at the time of the party’s split on June 21, 2022, was the group led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar maintained that the 1999 Sena constitution was the only “official” constitution to consider this question as it was submitted to the Election Commission (EC) by the party. Narwekar also ruled that the Sena’s 2018 amended constitution cited by the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena (UBT), which gave him “unabridged powers”, was “not on record” before the EC and his office.

Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar held on Wednesday that the Eknath Shinde-led faction was the ‘real Shiv Sena’ and no MLA would be disqualified. The decision sparked outrage in the Opposition ranks with several leaders from the Maha Vikas Aghadi lashing out at the ruling coalition. Former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray also declared his intention to approach the Supreme Court over the matter.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's "faction was the real Shiv Sena political party when rival factions emerged on 21st June 2022", ruled Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar on Wednesday. The verdict came as a major setback for the Uddhav Thackeray faction as Narwekar rejected the petition by Thackeray to disqualify 16 Shiv Sena MLAs including Shinde.
