THE PARLIAMENT – both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha – Saturday adopted a resolution on theconsecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya which praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for playing an “unparalleled role” in uniting the entire nation on the “auspicious occasion”.
Forced to join adebate in Parliament on the opening of the Ram Temple, the Congress and a handful of other opposition parties – many from the INDIA blocdid not participate in the discussions in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha – accused the BJP of spreading hatred and animosity in the name of Ram and using religion to secure power but skirted the issue of thinning of the line that demarcates religion and state.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday targeted the BJP for attempting to politicise religion ahead of the Lok Sabha elections and asked if the party was “anti-women” for “omitting” Goddess Sita from the discourse on Lord Ram, whose temple was inaugurated in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, earlier in the day.
