WASHINGTON (AP) — A transcript of the Republican response to the State of the Union address, as delivered by Sen. Katie Britt, R-Ala., on March 7, 2024:
Republicans were in full celebratory mode following Thursday's debate between former President Trump and President Biden.
On Wednesday, the day before former president Donald Trump paid a visit to Capitol Hill, Senators Katie Britt of Alabama and Ted Cruz of Texas were on the floor debating their legislation to protect access to IVF.
WASHINGTON — All 49 Senate Republicans signed a statement on Thursday vowing to “strongly support continued nationwide access to” in vitro fertilization, saying the procedure has “allowed millions of aspiring parents to start and grow their families.”
WASHINGTON — After a failed vote last week that would have ensured nationwide access to contraception, Democrats on Thursday are expected to force a vote to enshrine protections for in vitro fertilization — a fertility procedure that has helped millions of families have children — and expand access to the treatment for service members and veterans.
Republican Sens. Ted Cruz (Texas) and Katie Britt (Ala.) on Monday introduced legislation to protect in vitro fertilization, months after a controversial Alabama Supreme Court ruling that led providers to halt the fertility procedure.
Shortly after it was introduced, Democrats quickly condemned a new Republican bill that aims to compile resources on a government website for expecting mothers, postpartum women and young mothers. They alleged that it was a covert attempt to establish a "database of pregnant women," potentially enabling the government to block access to abortions.
Katie Britt, the Republican US senator from Alabama best known for delivering a widely ridiculed State of the Union speech in March, marked the run-up to Mother’s Day on Sunday by introducing a bill to create a federal database to collect data on pregnant people.
Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) pre-gamed for Mother’s Day by introducing a bill this week that would create a federal database that stores data on pregnant people.
