THE CRISIS in the Jharkhand Congress may have blown over for now, but party leaders fear the after effects of the open protest by eight of their MLAs will linger.
With Hemant Soren in judicial custody, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) is quickly adjusting to life without the leadership of its former chief minister. After taking over as the new CM on February 2 to lead the state’s Mahagathbandhan alliance, JMM leader Champai Soren won the trust vote on February 5. On Friday, he expanded his Cabinet by inducting eight new ministers including Basant Soren, Hemant’s younger brother and Dumka MLA.
The floor test of the new Jharkhand government is likely to be held on Monday. The Champai Soren-led coalition government in Jharkhand is all set to seek a vote of trust on February 5 during a special two-day assembly session, news agency PTI reported.
Amid intense political activity in Jharkhand, a special Ranchi court on Saturday allowed former chief minister Hemant Soren to participate in the floor test on 5 February, which will seal the fate of newly appointed CM Champai Soren. Jharkhand Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan said that the Enforcement Directorate vehemently objected to any such permission to Hemant Soren, but the court allowed the JMM chief to participate in the process.
Shortly after Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Champai Soren took Chief Minister's oath, MLAs of the ruling JMM-led coalition reached the airport to fly to Hyderabad before floor test.
Former Jharkhand Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha party (JMM) executive president Hemant Soren was sent to 5-day (ED) custody on Friday.
Members of the JMM-led alliance in Jharkhand may fly to Hyderabad in case of delay in government formation. The assertion came from state Congress chief Rajesh Thakur after newly appointed JMM chief Champai Soren sought time from the governor to prove majority. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Hemant Soren was produced before an PMLA Court in Ranchi on Thursday afternoon.
