The Congress on Monday announced that Rahul Gandhi wouldretain his seat in Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh and give up Wayanad in Kerala where Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, his sister, will make her electoral debut. The announcement came after Congress’ top leadership on Monday held discussions at Kharge’s residence.
While the Congress is enthused over Kerala’s Wayanad Lok Sabha seat becoming Priyanka Gandhi’s launching pad in electoral politics, the decline in Rahul Gandhi’s winning margin in the recent elections suggests various shortcomings in the party organisation and its campaigning in the constituency.
