From appearing to be in a winning position for months ahead of the November 2023 Telangana Assembly elections, enough for its chief K Chandrashekar Rao to nurture national ambitions, to almost becoming “inconsequential” in its backyard in the Lok Sabha polls, the fall of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in a span of just over four months has been spectacularly drastic.
The bypolls to six Assembly seats in Himachal Pradesh, fallen vacant following the disqualification of as many Congress MLAs, will be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls on June 1, state’s Chief Electoral Officer Maneesh Garg said Saturday. The counting of votes will be held on June 4.
Among the names that featured in the Congress’s first list of 39 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls, released by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) last Friday, were seven nominees from Karnataka, the home state of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge.

A day after the BJP’s announcement of its first list of 195 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers Sunday.
The BJP may announce its first list of Lok Sabha candidates over the weekend, party leaders have said. The names were decided at a marathon meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC), which went on till the early hours of Friday. “It will be speculation to guess the exact number to be announced but the list is expected to be a significant one,” said a BJP leader.
Earlier this week, former Hyderabad deputy mayor Mothe Srilatha switched from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to the Congress, following in the footsteps of a host of leaders including other ex-Hyderabad mayors such as Bonthu Rammohan and Teegala Krishna Reddy, and former deputy mayor Baba Fasiuddin.
