But you’re not the only one taking in your surroundings. Restaurant servers are also likely sizing you up and figuring out what kind of dining guest you’ll be.
With Sweetgreen, Chopt, Just Salad and others (the list goes on) popping up in every suburban strip mall and on every street corner, it’s safe to say we’re living in the golden age of the to-go salad. While it’s pretty delightful that we can get a flavorful salad full of high-quality, healthy ingredients with a few taps on an app, I have to admit that I have some issues with these salads.
If you have plans to eat at a Mexican restaurant for dinner in the States, you probably have a few expectations — complimentary baskets of golden tortilla chips and salsa, tacos, burritos, enchiladas and a whole section on the menu devoted to margaritas. Oh, and you expect it to be cheap .
Now that we’re all back to dining out like we did in the good old days (pre-COVID), the rules of what’s acceptable and what isn’t have changed. For instance, fine dining once required specific place settings and dress codes, but that hardly exists anymore.
