In the course of less than one-and-half years, Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) supremo Nitish Kumar broke up with the Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) to join hands with the BJP again, to take oath as the CM at the head of the NDA government for ninth time Sunday.
Switching sides for the fifth time in just over a decade, JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar returned to the NDA on Sunday, less than 18 months after he left the alliance, and took oath as the Bihar Chief Minister for the ninth time.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar resigned from his post on Sunday, bringing the Mahagathbandhan government to an end. He is expected to form a new government in alliance with the BJP, and is expected to be sworn in later in the day.
As Nitish Kumar and his JD(U) return to the NDA fold to form a new government in Bihar, one of the two deputy chief ministers from the BJP is likely to be Vijay Kumar Sinha, the representative from Lakhisarai who is the current Leader of the Opposition (LoP). On Sunday, as a precursor to that, Sinha was elected as deputy leader of the BJP legislature party.
Joining hands with JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar to form a new NDA government in Bihar with Nitish as the Chief Minister, the BJP has chosen two of its senior leaders – state party president Samrat Choudhary and erstwhile Leader of Opposition Vijay Sinha – as the Deputy CMs.
